Jenness Cortez began her formal studies in the world of horse art at the age of sixteen. She has a solid fine arts background, having graduated from the Herron School of Art in Indianapolis, and studied at the Art Students League of New York.

She first achieved widespread recognition during the 1980’s with her paintings of racehorses, which she painted from first-hand viewings at Saratoga, New York. Gaining much of her experience early on as an editorial illustrator, she is a realist in approach, a draftsman if you will, in the sense of Remington. This realism is evident in her Companions, above.

Board of Directors

The horse art of Jenness Cortez captures the soul of her subjects and communicates the essence of the moment and the place.

Her sense of humor, and sense of realism, are evident in her Board of Directors (above).

From her studio near the Catskill's, Jenness Cortez' art extends far beyond sporting and equestrian themes. Her landscapes and still lifes, and most recently her depictions of the towns and villages of Europe, are on display in many public and private collections.
