Horse Lover Gifts That are a Bit
Can Be a Big Hit

There are some great horse lover gifts you won't find in stores.
Gifts you make, places to go, or things to do.
These can be the very best, most remembered gifts of all. These can earn you a
"You Did GOOD! award.

As John Stienbeck said:

"Ideas are like rabbits. You get
a couple and learn how to handle them, and pretty soon
you have a dozen."

Most of the gift ideas here won't fit neatly in a box. For example -

Barrel Racer Horse and Carriage White Horse and Green Grass
Get tickets to a good ol' Texas rodeo for an afternoon of riding, roping and barrel racing. Take your horse lover on a carriage ride on a back road, in Central Park, or perhaps Spain. Then of course there's always the ultimate gift - a beautiful horse! (of course)

Here Are Some "Off-the-Beaten-Path" Ideas

If you'd like to comment or expand on this list,
or if you have a story to tell about a "cool" gift you've given a horse lover,
you'll find an invitation to do so at the bottom of this page.

  • a horse! (of course) - here are several resources where horses are for sale. However, the intent is primarily to "plant the seed" for a great gift idea. There are many places where you'll find good horses for sale but one of our links may help you get started.

  • Tickets to a museum or exhibition featuring horses or horse art; visit the museum store or visit several

on-line museum stores for unique horse lover gifts.

  • a rope halter - more specifically, 20' of rope and instructions for the do-it-yourself'er. (We respectfully suggest you know a bit about your horse lover before giving this for a gift.)

  • Dinner and a (Horse) Movie: we can't tell you which restaurant, or when a good movie is coming to a theatre near you - you're on your own there; nevertheless a nice thought as a gift. Or, buy a DVD and make the dinner yourself! DVD recommendations? - Hidalgo or The Man From Snowy River are two good ones.

  • Here's one that's a "bit off the beaten path". If your horse lover is looking for something more than just a gentle ride along a trail, try a gift certificate for a 3 Day Saddle Bronc School or, for another way to get a rush, a certificate for a 3 Day Clown/Bull Fighting School. These lessons are available at approximately 25 cities throughout the US.

  • Here are some cool ideas for the show ring (or for that matter the rodeo grounds). A selection of truly stunning items in custom western wear is a click away at Connie Colvin's The Winner's Fit. You'll discover a selection of custom shirts, jackets, and complete outfits that truly make a statement. No run-of-the mill gift ideas here!

  • Tickets to Events, Horse Shows, Rodeos, or Clinics

  • A Gift Membership in a leading Breed or Discipline Association or Society and/or a subscription to their magazine or Journal (e.g., the American Quarter Horse Association).

    Some possibilities -

  • horse fencing OK, bad gift idea - but if there's a need for new fencing looming on your horizon, this page would be worth a look. See what we did.

  • A Trail Ride , be it a day trip or a horse vacation and pack trip into the wilderness (one of the greatest vacations we ever experienced!) - maybe even a Cattle Drive or Horse Drive or Roundup for a truly different experience.

  • How about a "designed it myself" gift? Try your hand at putting together a Gift Basket with an equine theme.

  • Another "designed it myself" gift with a truly personal touch. A photo of your horse lover's favorite horse transferred to canvas, complete with brushstrokes. Take a trip to our Horse Art page to learn more about this novel idea. Yet another idea is to transfer to canvas a photo of a favorite equestrian statue taken while on vacation.

  • A Trip to a Ranch or Horse Farm

  • A Carriage or Buggy Ride or a (sleigh ride in the winter!)

  • Or you could build your horse lover a round pen of your own design (or use ours).

Then of course there's a year's supply of horse food.

- difficult to gift wrap!

What's Your Idea for a Great Horse Lover's Gift?

Here's your chance to write a page either expanding on an idea in the above list, sharing an idea of your own for a horse lover's gift, or telling your story about a "cool or off-beat" gift you've given a horse lover.

If your gift was a huge success we'd love to know what it was. It it turned out to be a "train wreck" we'd love to hear about that as well!
